Latter-day Saint Valerie Adams Receives One of New Zealand's Highest Award the 'Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit'

Auckland New Zealand ― Valerie Adams, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints received one of New Zealand's highest award the "Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit," on the New Years Day honour list.
Sister Adams was acknowledged for her services to sport in honours given by the Queen and is the youngest to get the title of Dame in New Zealand, a sister from her ward told Moroni Channel.
"I'm very humbled and honoured to receive this award. I have been blessed with an amazing career, with so many highlights both on and off the field. I love representing my country and I take the responsibility that comes with wearing the black singlet very seriously," she said in a Facebook post Saturday. "Helping people to realise their potential keeps me going. To be recognised in this way is very humbling for me.... Thank you to everyone for all the love and support on this journey, but we haven't finished yet," she concluded.
Sister Valerie also appeared on Mormon Newsroom with Elder S Gifford Nielsen of the Pacific Area Presidency. Upon hearing the news Elder S Gifford Nielsen said that:
"This prestigious award honouring Valerie is so well deserved. She is not only an amazing athlete but also a powerful example of goodness and kindness. She knows her mission in life is to use her talent to influence many in a very positive way and this recognition exemplifies that quest."
