LDS Church to Reduce Number of Missions Across the Globe

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced yesterday that they will reduce the number of mission across globe.

After the announcement of President Thomas S. Monson to lower the ages for missionary service, the church expanded the number of mission to accommodate the increasing numbers of missionaries at that time. From 55 thousand missionaries to 88 thousand missionaries worldwide. Five years later the number of members applying for mission are slowly decreasing from 88 thousand to 77 thousand missionaries.

“We’ve leveled off to around 70,000 missionaries—still way up from the 58,000 we had,” Elder Nielson said. “In the orderly process of accommodating changes in our numbers, we’ll be slowly closing missions because we don’t need as many as we required for the great increase we experienced in 2012-13.”
