Young Women President Emily Belle Freeman has shared new guidance on how Young Women classes will function under a shortened 25-minute Sunday schedule beginning in September. The updated approach focuses on making class time more intentional, discussion-based, and centered on doctrine.
A key part of the change is the expectation that classes will open the scriptures within the first five minutes. Leaders are encouraged to begin quickly so that the Spirit can be invited early and guide the tone of the lesson. This practice is intended to help set a spiritual foundation for the rest of the meeting.
The new structure places greater emphasis on teachings from the “For the Strength of Youth” guide, with lessons designed around doctrine and principles rather than traditional instruction. Class time will be used more for conversation, allowing youth to participate, share thoughts, and learn from one another.
As part of the adjustment, opening exercises will be discontinued in order to prioritize focused, principle-centered learning within the limited time frame. Leaders say the changes are intended to make shorter classes more meaningful while maintaining a strong spiritual focus.
