A Latter-day Saint church in Hebersham, Sydney’s west, was destroyed by fire in the early hours of Monday morning. Firefighters were called to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at around 3 a.m., after reports of a large blaze. Flames were reported across three sectors of the complex, with video footage showing the fire towering above the building and visible to nearby residents.
Fire crews, including up to 120 personnel, worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the main auditorium and chapel areas. Inspector Steve Perkins from Fire and Rescue NSW confirmed that large parts of the church were destroyed, but the efforts of the firefighters saved a significant portion of the building.
No one was inside the church at the time, and all members have been accounted for. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
