The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has supported a major forensic and public health breakthrough in the Philippines through its humanitarian services by helping fund the initial production of 2,000 SAI.Kits, the country’s first locally developed Sexual Assault Investigation Kits. The initiative was developed over a 25-year period by researchers at the University of the Philippines Diliman Natural Sciences Research Institute DNA Analysis Laboratory in partnership with Manila Healthtek Inc.
The SAI.Kit is designed to assist medical professionals in the careful collection, preservation, and documentation of forensic evidence from survivors of sexual assault. It includes standardized tools, swabs, specimen containers, and documentation materials intended to ensure evidence can be properly handled and used in court proceedings, following established forensic science principles.
Church humanitarian support enabled the first large-scale manufacturing run in 2025, making it possible to produce 2,000 kits for nationwide distribution. The kits are now being delivered to Child Protection Units and women’s and children’s desks across the Philippines, along with training for health professionals on proper evidence collection and storage procedures.
Developers and partners say the SAI.Kit is expected to strengthen the country’s capacity to support survivors of sexual violence by improving the quality of forensic evidence and increasing the likelihood that cases can be successfully pursued in court.
