The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has introduced several new music features in the Gospel Library app designed to make sacred music easier to find, listen to and use in worship.
The updates include featured playlists, topic-based music searches, expanded audio options, a stake conference hymn board, a metronome tool and improved access to guitar chord notation. Church leaders said the features are intended to help members participate more fully in worship at home and in congregational settings.
Featured playlists are now available from the app’s Home screen and are published by the Church based on global interests and needs. Users can also search for music by gospel topic and add songs to their own personal playlists.
The app now gives users a clearer choice between available audio versions of a hymn, including vocal recordings, accompaniment-only tracks and guitar accompaniment for new selections from “Hymns for Home and Church.” Previously, the music player automatically defaulted to vocal recordings.
A hymn board feature previously available for sacrament meetings has also been expanded to stake conferences. Authorized stake leaders and music coordinators can program hymns in advance for Saturday evening and general sessions, allowing attendees to easily access the selected music through Gospel Library even when printed hymnbooks are limited.
For accompanists and music leaders, Gospel Library now includes a metronome within accompanist mode. The tool can provide either visible or audible beats and allows users to select a tempo based on the suggested range shown on the sheet music.
The feature supports a recent invitation from Elder Patrick Kearon, who encouraged congregations to use tempos that help members sing with greater energy.
Guitar chord notation is also available for all newly published hymns from “Hymns for Home and Church.” Chords are hidden by default in the responsive sheet music view but can be turned on through the app’s display settings.
The Church said the updates are part of continuing efforts to make sacred music more accessible for daily worship, gospel study, family activities, youth gatherings and Church meetings.
