During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., model and entrepreneur Georgina Rodríguez, fiancée of Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo, made an unexpected discovery in her hotel room: a copy of the Book of Mormon. She shared the find on Instagram on January 25, posting a photo of the book alongside a Bible, both placed in her Marriott hotel room.

The presence of the Book of Mormon in Marriott hotels is part of a long-standing tradition dating back to the chain’s founding in the late 1950s. Marriott’s founders, J. Willard and Alice Marriott, were devout members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the books have been included in guest rooms ever since. Today, the practice continues in thousands of properties worldwide, including hotels acquired later, such as those from Starwood in 2016. Guests are often welcome to take the books home if they wish.

The Book of Mormon is considered sacred scripture by members of the Church and is intended to complement the Bible, testifying of Jesus Christ and offering spiritual guidance. Rodríguez’s post quickly drew attention from followers, showing how everyday encounters can unexpectedly spark curiosity about faith and spirituality.

While it is unclear whether Rodríguez read or took the book, her discovery has highlighted the presence of religious texts in global hotel chains and the small ways in which spirituality can intersect with daily life.
