South Korean actor Park Bo Gum will make his animation voice acting debut as the lead character in David, an animated film released by Angel Studios, a Utah-based entertainment company. Distributor Lotte Entertainment unveiled the Korean dubbing cast for the film on June 5, introducing Park alongside veteran actors Jang Gwang and Cha Ji Yeon.

The film tells the biblical story of David, an ordinary shepherd boy who endures hardship in the wilderness before fulfilling his destiny as king. Park voices the title character, portraying David’s innocence, courage and determination. He will also perform musical numbers featured in the film.

“I related deeply to David’s courage and message of hope,” Park said. “I hope this becomes a work remembered for delivering the courage to try and the perseverance to achieve.”

Jang Gwang will voice the prophet Samuel, who guides David on his journey to becoming king, while Cha Ji Yeon will portray David’s mother, Nitzevet, a character who instills faith and courage in her son. Voice actors Song Jun Seok and Si Young Jun will lend their voices to King Saul and Goliath, respectively.

David is scheduled to premiere in South Korea on July 15.
