The Cathedral of the Madeleine, the mother church for Catholics in Utah, has extended warm congratulations to President Dallin H. Oaks following his appointment as President of the Church of Jesus Christ.
In a statement released by Fr. Christopher Gray, rector of the Cathedral, the Catholic community praised President Oaks for his “many years of service,” his “dedication to strengthening families and communities,” and his “consistent witness of belief in God.”
“President Oaks has long been a respected voice of faith and principle in our state and throughout the world,” the statement said. “We are grateful for his leadership and commitment to serving others.”
The message also highlighted the long-standing spirit of friendship between Utah’s Catholic and Latter-day Saint communities. Fr. Gray expressed gratitude for the collaboration and generosity of the Church of Jesus Christ, noting that its support has “enriched the life of our Cathedral.”
The Cathedral’s statement concluded with a prayer for President Oaks, asking that “God may bless him with wisdom, health, and strength as he leads his church into a new chapter of faith and service.”
The gesture marks a notable moment of interfaith respect and unity in Utah, where the Catholic and Latter-day Saint communities have often worked together on humanitarian, cultural, and civic initiatives.
