Church services were canceled Sunday morning at a meetinghouse in Orem after congregants arriving for worship reported what they believed to be signs of a break-in and an unidentified white substance inside the building.
The incident occurred at the Orem Park Stake Center, a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. According to a church spokesperson, the situation was later determined not to be a case of vandalism or forced entry. Instead, the substance was caused by wet spots from a malfunctioning fire sprinkler system.
A church member said congregants discovered the chapel and cultural hall coated with the substance upon arrival and immediately contacted emergency responders. Church leaders decided to cancel services while awaiting an assessment from the Orem Fire Department.
Officials confirmed there was no break-in, and the issue was related to the sprinkler malfunction inside the building.
