The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced plans to honor President Russell M. Nelson, who passed away on September 27, 2025, at the age of 101.

“Before the Church’s semiannual general conference begins, all are invited to view a special broadcast honoring Russell M. Nelson, beloved prophet and president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” the Church stated. “This broadcast will feature remarks by several Church leaders.”

The tribute broadcast, titled “A Tribute to Russell M. Nelson”, will be streamed worldwide on Wednesday, October 1, at 10 a.m. MDT. It will be available on ChurchofJesusChrist.org, YouTube, BYUtv, and KSL in 13 languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Cantonese, Mandarin, and ASL. The event will feature remarks from Church leaders and music by The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.

Public funeral events will follow the October general conference, which will proceed as planned on October 4 and 5.

A public viewing will be held on Monday, October 6, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City. Public funeral services will take place on Tuesday, October 7, at 12 p.m. MDT in the same location. The funeral is open to those ages 8 and older, with tickets required for attendance. Tickets will become available online on Thursday, October 2, at 10 a.m. Attendees must be seated no later than 11:30 a.m.

Church office buildings on Temple Square will be closed during the service from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The funeral will be broadcast globally on ChurchofJesusChrist.org, YouTube, BYUtv, and KSL.

“President Nelson died from causes incident to age on September 27, 2025, at his home in Salt Lake City at the age of 101,” the Church stated. He was the 17th president in the 195-year history of the Church and had served as its president since January 14, 2018.

A private burial service will follow the funeral. Expressions of sympathy may be posted on President Nelson’s Facebook and Instagram pages or emailed to [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, the Church has invited contributions to the Humanitarian Aid Fund or the General Missionary Fund.
