Mission President Confirms Safety of Missionaries After Severe Flooding in Veracruz

The president of the Mexico Xalapa Mission confirmed Monday that all missionaries serving in the region are safe following days of heavy rainfall and catastrophic flooding that struck northern Veracruz.

“For the past few days, heavy rains caused flooding in the northern state of Veracruz, particularly affecting the areas of Poza Rica and Tuxpan,” the statement read.

The mission president expressed gratitude that no missionaries were harmed during the disaster. “We want to thankfully report that all of our missionaries are safe and protected,” the statement continued. “Right now, they are serving and helping affected families, bringing comfort, willing hands, and the love of the Lord Jesus Christ to those who need it most.”

The statement also thanked families and friends of the missionaries for their concern and prayers amid the crisis. “We appreciate the prayers and support of all the parents, family and friends of our missionaries,” it said.

Concluding with a message of faith, the mission president urged continued unity and service despite the ongoing challenges caused by the floods. “Let us continue to be united in faith and hope, remembering that when we are in the service of our fellow men we are only in the service of God and that He lights even in the midst of the storm.”

Heavy rains linked to Post-Tropical Cyclone Priscilla and Tropical Storm Raymond have battered parts of Veracruz and neighboring states in recent days, causing widespread flooding and landslides that have left dozens dead and thousands displaced. Missionaries in the affected areas have joined local relief efforts as recovery operations continue.
