BYU has reported a surge in COVID-19 cases during the first week of the Fall semester.
According to the Daily Universe, the school has reported 80 new cases and is tied to student gatherings on and off-campus.
Currently, twenty-four students in Helamen Halls have also been asked to quarantine after they were exposed to the virus at a gathering where physical distancing wasn’t maintained. “We’ll continue to ask students to quarantine if they attend gatherings where they may have been exposed,” the statement reads.
While it’s still unclear how this will impact the university’s plan for an in-person semester, the school has mandated its students to always wear masks and encourage everyone to follow the safety guidelines.
