Sometimes we place stumbling blocks in front of our friends and neighbors by the using of  our  knowledge, wanting to express it before one is ready to receive it, or our self righteousness wanting just ever so slightly to tell someone else how he should behave or act, or gossip, curt comments, or even to look down on others especially to those that might not fit in to the norm culture of our church. We can even do it unintentionally when we are not careful but when we do so and wound or injure their weak conscience we sin against Christ. The reason is we prevent that person, by our action the effective use of the atonement in his life. We drive him away from the church and Christ preventing him from exercising the great plan of redemption by the use of repentance and forgiveness. Let us be careful and look around at others and examen our own hearts to be more certain that we do not indeed place a stumbling block in front of another. It is even better to avoid the very appearance of evil than to do so.

1 Corinthians 8:9 – 13
“But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak. For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols; And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.”
